Blog 5: "Obama Sets Immigration Changes for 2010"

Link

Key Terms:
1. Demagogues- a political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular and prejudices

2. Financial regulation- a form of regulation or supervision that subjects financial institutions to certain requirements and restrictions

3. Organization of American States: an association including most countries in the western hemisphere; created in 1948 to promote military, social, and cultural

Summary:

President Obama traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, along with Prime Minister Stephen Harper  and President Felipe Calderon, to discuss the differences they have on certain issues, one of which being the immigration reform.  It is stated in this article that they came with the conclusion to help the people already in the United States get their citizenship but also to have a stronger border security. Although there were many disagreements there were still many issues they had to discuss. The main issue that they were concerned about was the “ violators of human rights right now are the cartels themselves that are kidnapping people, extorting people and encouraging corruption.”

My Predictions:

My prediction is that just because President Obama, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and President Felipe Calderon do not agree on certain issues, if they continue to meet and collectively work out these issues they will improve the situation of all their countries. I predict that with three different points of views they will understand each other better and their people as well.
